- Between 1976-1977, the Carter family peanut business received a bailout in the form of a $4.6 million, "poorly managed" and highly irregular loan from the National Bank of Georgia (NBG). According to a July 29, 1980 Jack Anderson expose in The Washington Post, the bank's biggest borrower was Mr. Carter ...
- Agha Hasan Abedi, the Pakistani founder of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), known as the bank "which would bribe God," ...then declared: "we would never talk about exploiting his relationship with the president."
- In January 1978, Abedi paid off ... $3.5 million debt to the NBG, and Pharaon [Saudi billionaire Gaith Pharaon] secretly gained control over the bank... "Of course, the Saudis remained discretely silent... kept quiet about Carter's irregularities... [and] renegotiated the loan to Carter's advantage."
- The President owned 62% of the business and therefore was the largest beneficiary." Pharaon later contributed generously to the former president's library and center.
- Abedi contributed more than $10 million to Mr. Carter's different projects. Even after BCCI was indicted — and convicted -— for drug money laundering, Mr. Carter accepted $1.5 million from Abedi, his "good friend."
- A quick survey of the major contributors to the Carter Center reveals hundreds of millions of dollars from Saudi and Gulf contributors. But it was [drug money laundering] BCCI that helped Mr. Carter established his center.
- Shortly after assuming office, in March 1977, Mr. Carter made his first public statement regarding a Palestinian "homeland." But it's the financing behind Georgia's Carter Center and the Jimmy Carter
Library that raises serious doubts that the former president is, in actuality,
a wholly neutral intermediary in the troubled region.
NewsMax has reviewed annual reports that indicate millions of charitable
dollars have flowed into the center from His Majesty Sultan Qaboss bin Said Al
Said of Oman, Jordan, from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and from the Government
of the United Arab Emirates.
Furthermore, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been donated to the center
by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. H.R.H. Prince Moulay Hicham
Ben Abdallah of Morocco has also contributed tens of thousands of dollars.
There are no corresponding contributions apparent from Israeli sources, however.
As the center's literature describes, "The Carter Center and the Jimmy
Carter Library were built in large measure thanks to the early leadership and
financial support of the Carter Center founders."
Three of those generous Founders:
1. Agha Hasan Abedi
On July 5 1991, banking regulators targeted Abedi's Bank of Credit and Commerce
International (BCCI), triggering a worldwide financial tidal wave. To date,
accountants and lawyers have managed to recoup (discounting fees) $7 billion
out of the $12 billion money pit that fueled the BCCI fraud.
Agha Hasan Abedi, a banker and self-styled mystic on first-name terms with
Carter, created BCCI in 1972. Abedi had charmed seed money out of Arab sheikhs,
organizing camel races and hunting trips. The Bank of America bought into BCCI
as a way of buying access to the Middle East, holding a 30 percent stake at one
point before dumping its holdings in the late-1970s.
2. His Majesty King Fahd of Saudi Arabia
Last month Saudi Arabia transferred $15.4 million in advance aid to the
Palestinian Authority. The transfer was made to a controversial Arab League
fund, a product of the recent Arab summit in Beirut. According to Arab
spokesmen, the money was hurriedly contributed due to the dire plight of the
Palestinian people as a result of "vicious Israeli aggression."
King Fahd, Crown Prince Abdullah and Defense Minister Prince Sultan jointly
donated $4.8 million to launch the fund pot, while Interior Minister Prince
Nayef bin Abdul Aziz sent an estimated $800,000 to the families of "155
Palestinian martyrs" killed in the current Israeli offensive.
3. Hasib J. Sabbagh
Sabbagh is the chairman of Consolidated Contractors Co. of Oman, Jordan. He is
also the Senior Fellow for the Middle East of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Founded in 1921, the Council on Foreign Relations is a membership organization
contributing ideas to U.S. foreign policy. The Council publishes Foreign
Affairs, a leading journal on global issues.
Individual, foundation, and corporate donors, together with multilateral
development assistance programs, support the Carter Center's current annual
operating budget of around $30 million. Among the center's announced
priorities: promoting democracy, global development, human rights and conflict
resolution.
Carter said he has spent much time raising money, but he hopes that a campaign
to raise a $150 million endowment will lighten the load. Phil Wise, the
center's executive director for operations, said an estimated $110 million has
already been raised for the endowment.

Jimmy Carter: The Original Source of Iran's Nuke Threat
Carter Sold Out Iran 1977-1978

As if a light were switched off, the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlevi, portrayed for 20 years as a progressive modern ruler by Islamic standards, was suddenly, in 1977-1978, turned into this foaming at the mouth monster by the international left media. Soon after becoming President in 1977, Jimmy Carter launched a deliberate campaign to undermine the Shah. The Soviets and their left-wing apparatchiks would coordinate with Carter by smearing the Shah in a campaign of lies meant to topple his throne. The result would be the establishment of a Marxist/Islamic state in Iran headed by the tyrannical Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. The Iranian revolution, besides enthroning one of the world's most oppressive regimes, would greatly contribute to the creation of the Marxist/Islamic terror network challenging the free world today.
At the time, a senior Iranian diplomat in Washington observed, "President Carter betrayed the Shah and helped create the vacuum that will soon be filled by Soviet-trained agents and religious fanatics who hate America." Under the guise of promoting" human rights," Carter made demands on the Shah while blackmailing him with the threat that if the demands weren't fulfilled, vital military aid and training would be withheld. This strange policy, carried out against a staunch, 20 year Middle East ally, was a repeat of similar policies applied in the past by US governments to other allies such as pre Mao China and pre Castro Cuba.
Carter started by pressuring the Shah to release "political prisoners" including known terrorists and to put an end to military tribunals. The newly released terrorists would be tried under civil jurisdiction with the Marxist/Islamists using these trials as a platform for agitation and propaganda. This is a standard tactic of the left then and now. The free world operates at a distinct dis-advantage to Marxist and Islamic nations in this regard as in those countries, trials are staged to "show" the political faith of the ruling elite. Fair trials, an independent judiciary, and a search for justice is considered to be a western bourgeois prejudice.
Carter pressured Iran to allow for "free assembly" which meant that groups would be able to meet and agitate for the overthrow of the government. It goes without saying that such rights didn't exist in any Marxist or Islamic nation. The planned and predictable result of these policies was an escalation of opposition to the Shah, which would be viewed by his enemies as a weakness. A well-situated internal apparatus in Iran receiving its marching orders from the Kremlin egged on this growing opposition.
By the fall of 1977, university students, working in tandem with a Shi'ite clergy that had long opposed the Shah's modernizing policies, began a well coordinated and financed series of street demonstrations supported by a media campaign reminiscent of the 1947-1948 campaign against China's Chiang Ki Shek in favor of the "agrarian reformer" Mao tse Tung. At this point the Shah was unable to check the demonstrators, who were instigating violence as a means of inflaming the situation and providing their media stooges with atrocity propaganda. Rumors were circulating amongst Iranians that the CIA under the orders of President Carter organized these demonstrations.
In November 1977, the Shah and his Empress, Farah Diba, visited the White House where they were met with hostility. They were greeted by nearly 4,000 Marxist-led Iranian students, many wearing masks, waving clubs, and carrying banners festooned with the names of Iranian terrorist organizations. The rioters were allowed within 100 feet of the White House where they attacked other Iranians and Americans gathered to welcome the Shah. Only 15 were arrested and quickly released. Inside the White House, Carter pressured the Shah to implement even more radical changes. Meanwhile, the Soviets were mobilizing a campaign of propaganda, espionage, sabotage, and terror in Iran. The Shah was being squeezed on two sides.
In April 1978, Moscow would instigate a bloody coup in Afghanistan and install the communist puppet Nur Mohammad Taraki. Taraki would proceed to call for a "jihad" against the "Ikhwanu Shayateen" which translates into "brothers of devils," a label applied to opponents of the new red regime in Kabul and to the Iranian government. Subversives and Soviet-trained agents swarmed across the long Afghanistan/Iran border to infiltrate Shi'ite mosques and other Iranian institutions. By November 1978, there was an estimated 500,000 Soviet backed Afghanis in Iran where, among other activities, they set up training camps for terrorists.
Khomeini, a 78-year-old Shi'ite cleric whose brother had been imprisoned as a result of activities relating to his Iranian Communist party affiliations, and who had spent 15 years in exile in Ba'th Socialist Iraq, was poised to return. In exile, Khomeini spoke of the creation of a revolutionary Islamic republic, which would be anti-Western, socialist, and with total power in the hands of an ayatollah. In his efforts to violently overthrow the government of Iran, Khomeini received the full support of the Soviets.
Nureddin Klanuri, head of the Iranian Communist Tudeh Party, in exile in East Berlin, stated, "The Tudeh Party approves Ayatollah Khomeini's initiative in creating the Islamic Revolutionary Council. The ayatollah's program coincides with that of the Tudeh Party." Khomeini's closest advisor, Sadegh Ghothzadeh, was well known as a revolutionary with close links to communist intelligence. In January 1978, Pravda, the official Soviet organ, officially endorsed the Khomeini revolution.
American leaders were also supporting Khomeini. After the Pravda endorsement, Ramsey Clark, who served as Attorney General under President Lyndon B. Johnson, held a press conference where he reported on a trip to Iran and a Paris visit with Khomeini. He urged the US government to take no action to help the Shah so that Iran "could determine it's own fate." Clark played a behind the scenes role influencing members of Congress to not get involved in the crisis. Perhaps UN Ambassador Andrew Young best expressed the thinking of the left at the time when he stated that, if successful, Khomeini would "eventually be hailed as a saint."
Khomeini was allowed to seize power in Iran and, as a result, we are now reaping the harvest of anti-American fanaticism and extremism. Khomeini unleashed the hybrid of Islam and Marxism that has spawned suicide bombers and hijackers. President Jimmy Carter, and the extremists in his administration are to blame and should be held accountable.

Carter & Brzezinski engineered the
Soviet invasion, and, with the support of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and
the PRC, he created a campaign supporting mujaheddin in Pakistan and
Afghanistan, which were run by Pakistani security services with
financial support from the US and Britain.
This policy had the explicit aim of promoting radical Islamist ... In
1998, Brzezinski was interviewed by the French newspaper Nouvel
Observateur on the topic of Afghanistan. He revealed that Carter
support for the mujaheddin had started before the 1979 Soviet invasion and was indeed designed to prompt a Soviet invasion:

in Afghanistan, nobody believed them. Nevertheless there was a core of

president Carter, in essence: "We now have the opportunity to provide
the USSR with their Viet Nam war..."

September 1978 [when Jimmy Carter became the President of USA] Billy [Carter] made a highly publicized trip to Libya with a
group of Georgia legislators and businessmen eager to make deals. Several months later, he hosted a delegation of Libyans in Atlanta, as
they looked for a place to locate a permanent trade mission.
When asked
why he was involved, Billy said, "The only thing I can say is there is
a hell of a lot more Arabians than there is Jews." He also argued that
the "Jewish media [tore] up the Arab countries full-time," and defended
Libya against charges of state-sponsored terrorism by saying that a
"heap of governments support terrorists and [Libya] at least admitted
it"...
A Dubious "Loan"
Once sober, Billy was no longer in demand on the talk-show circuit, so
he turned again to his Libyan friends for financial help. In July 1980
he belatedly registered as a foreign agent of the Libyan government and
admitted to receiving a $220,000 "loan" for oil sales he was supposed
to facilitate.
The press rushed to find out whether the president's
brother had hawked his influence with the White House, and a new
presidential scandal, "Billygate," was born.
As Jimmy himself later
admitted, "He was the president's brother, and therefore fair game."

death squads (benignly labeled

contras") based in Honduras to oppose the Sandinistas after they overthrew the
dictator Somoza in Nicaragua.
Nice. This little bit of creative obstructionism
was expanded during the Reagan administration and would later become what is
commonly known as the
Iran-Contra scandal.
After a coup in El Salvador, Carter
sent aid and weapons to the El Salvadoran military who proceeded to
massacre
tens of thousands of civilians. Good work Mr. Carter.
His generous
foreign policy initiatives weren't limited to Central America. Carter increased
the supply of arms and munitions to the Indonesian government despite their
invasion of East Timor.
More than 200,000 civilians were slaughtered there,
nearly a third of the population.
Remember the Islamic fundamentalist
Mujahideen? Carter funded their military buildup in order to entice the Soviet
Union to invade Afghanistan.
This resulted in the complete devastation of that
country which led to the rise of the Taliban, friends of Osama Bin Laden, the
alleged mastermind of the
attacks of 9/11. History has long fingers that touch
us in ways never anticipated when its hand is first lifted.
The trail of
blood left by the Carter administration has dried to a dark stain which is
largely ignored by his admirers.
Who was it that supported the Khmer Rouge while
they committed genocide in Cambodia? Jimmy Carter.
... Carter endorsed and
supported dictator Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines, brutal Pakistani General
Zia al Huq, and Saudi King Faud, among other notable human rights abusers.
The
list of Mr. Carter's dictatorial pals while he was in office is quite
impressive...

Carter's book bathes Arab leaders in a very positive light and takes
Arab statements at face value but casts the Israelis as often being
disingenuous.
His depiction of Yasser Arafat after becoming head of the Palestine
Liberation Organization (PLO) in the late '60s emphasizes that he spent much of
his "attention to raising funds for the care and support of the refugees and
inspiring worldwide contribution to their cause."
Really? In fact, his group was engaged in the early '70s in a bloody civil
war in Jordan, cross-border attacks against Israelis from Lebanon including
civilian terror attacks, maintaining a shadowy link to the Munich massacre at
the 1972 Olympics, and killing the U.S. ambassador to the Sudan.

Why has the Angry Left suddenly decided to resurrect Jimmy Carter and promote
him as some kind of saint?
Why is Carter suddenly so full of himself that he
writes books like this then refuses to debate?
The answer is simple: Carter is an as-s-hole and the Angry Left is desperate
for a hero.
I browsed through the book at Barnes & Noble recently and rather than
buying it I wanted to rip it up. Carter’s bias against Israel is so apparent it
is loathsome, and his distortion of the facts and glaring inaccuracies in the
book make it not even useful as a door stop or paperweight.
... Carter has to be the absolute worst President this country has
ever been saddled with.
His administration made every mistake in the book and
then some.
His recent public statements and books only serve to remind me of the mess he
made of everything. If you want to read an even better rebuttal of Carter’s book
and also to see why Carter refuses to debate Alan Dershowitz, trot on over to
the Huffington Post and read Dershowitz’s critique of Carter’s book.
Be sure to read the comments of the Carter sycophants from the Angry Left
that Huffington seems to attract.
Like Carter, they spew venom and insanity and refuse to listen to any
dissenting opinion. Carter himself refuses to debate the very book he supposedly
wrote “to stimulate debate”. That is a clear indication to me that he knows his
arguments are just as full of crap as he is. Using the word “apartheid” in the
title of a book about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict is nothing more than a
sensationalist, self-aggrandizing attempt to clean up his “legacy.”
Carter should do us all a favor and go into retirement before he goes
completely senile. He is already halfway there.

Carter the unbiased observer of the Middle East that he claims to be. He has
accepted money and an award from Sheik Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, saying in
2001: "This award has special significance for me because it is named for my
personal friend, Sheik Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan."
This is the same Zayed, the long-time ruler of the United Arab Emirates,
whose $2.5 million gift to the Harvard Divinity School was returned in 2004 due
to Zayed's rampant Jew-hatred.
Zayed's personal foundation, the Zayed Center, claims that it was Zionists,
rather than Nazis, who "were the people who killed the Jews in Europe" during
the Holocaust.
It has held lectures on the blood libel and conspiracy theories about Jews
and America perpetrating Sept. 11.
Carter's acceptance of money from this biased group casts real doubt on his
objectivity and creates an obvious conflict of interest.

"in excess of $1 million" from characters like Prince Al-Walid bin
Talal.
Bin Talal, you might recall, is the Saudi prince who
insultingly offered $20 million to New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani in the
smoldering ruins of the World Trade Center. The cash was held out not because
the prince cared about terrorism but to rub in that the attack was really a
byproduct of the Palestine conflict.
The streetwise Giuliani, who once
threw Yasser Arafat out of a New York theater, wasn't fooled by bin Talal's
power play and told him to keep his dirty money to himself. Giuliani smelled the
quid pro quo and wasn't a man who could be bought.
Carter looks a
little different...

new book that
describes Jews as racists and oppressors, and suggests they are
also a conspiratorial mafia that intimidates “critics,” controls America’s media
and war policy, and are therefore also the source of Islamic terrorism and
the Arabs’ genocidal campaign to eliminate them from the map of the Middle
East.
In other words, Americans beware of the Jew in your
midst.
Here is Carter’s description of the Middle East conflict in his
own words, delivered during an interview he gave on National Public Radio during
the second day of the Holocaust deniers’ conference in Teheran:
“I have spent a lot of time in Palestine in recent
years. … The Palestinians have had their own land, first of all, occupied and
then confiscated and then colonized. They’ve been excluded from their own
gardens and fields, and pastures and churches. They have been severely
restrained in their movements. They have to have different kinds of passes to go
through different checkpoints inside their own lands on their own roads. The
Israelis have built more than 200 settlements inside Palestine.They connect
these settlements with very nice roads for the Israeli settlers, and then
superhighways and so forth going into Jerusalem. Quite often the Palestinians
are prevented from even riding on those roads that have been built in their own
territory. So this has been in many ways worse than it was in South
Africa.”
When hundreds of millions of Muslims are calling for the
extermination of the Jews of Israel this is more than a lie; it is a blood
libel.
It is a lie that Palestinians “had their own land, first of all,
occupied.” This is like saying that Texans had their own land occupied by
Hispanics, ignoring the fact that Hispanics were there first. The very word
Palestine is a Roman appellation for the people called Philistines, who were not
Arabs but red-haired sailors from the Aegean. The Jews were there as
well.
In short, first of all the Jews were in the land before the
Arabs.
Second of all, the Arabs who inhabited the Palestine Mandate in
1948, at the time of the creation the state of Israel, considered themselves
Syrians.
Third, the Palestine Mandate was not created on land taken from
the Syrians or the Arabs. It was taken from the Turks.
It was not taken
from the Turks by the Jews, but by the British and the French. They took it
because Turkey sided with Germany in the First World War and, of course, lost.
The Turkish empire had ruled the entire region including Syria, Lebanon, Iraq
and Jordan for four hundred years before Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan were
artificially created by the English and the French. Jordan – a state whose
majority is Palestinian – occupies 80% of the Palestine Mandate.
So it is
a preposterous lie to say that the Palestinians had their own land and that it
was occupied by the Jews.
Fourth, the individual plots of land that Jews
now own were in the first instance bought from the Arabs who regarded themselves
as Syrians and who lived in the area of Israel. The only property that was
confiscated was confiscated as a spoil of the aggressive war that five Arab
states waged against Israel from the day of its birth. Five Arab armies invaded
Israel, a sovereign state, with the declared intent of “pushing the Jews into
the sea.” The cry today of the Muslim majority in the Middle East is to
“liberate Palestine from the river to the sea.” In other words push the Jews
into the sea.
By the standards of occupation and legitimacy Jimmy Carter
invokes, Israel has more legitimacy as a Jewish state than Texas does as an
American state, rather than a Mexican province.
The fifth Jimmy Carter
lie in this lone Jimmy Carter sentence is the claim that the Jews have colonized
anything. “The Israelis have built more than 200 settlements inside
Palestine.”
Why is it wrong of the Jews to live in the West Bank? (The
7000 Jews of Gaza, of course, have already been expunged as result of the Arabs’
genocidal hate.) Why can’t Jews have settlements in the West Bank?
The
answer is because the Palestinians Arabs are filled with a racist and theocratic
hate towards the Jews. They can’t tolerate a non-Muslim, non-Arab people

Contrast Carter’s attack on Jews living in the
West bank as “colonizers” who must be expelled with the fact that more than a
million Arabs live in Israel, where Israel provides them with more rights –
including the right to vote and elect Arab members of Israel’s government – than
any Arab who lives in any Arab state in the Middle East.
There is indeed
a wall now between Israel and the Palestinian Arabs. But it is not a wall to
keep Arabs out of Israel because they are Arab, as Carter maliciously maintains.
There are more than a million Arabs living in Israel. There are indeed
checkpoints in the West Bank and into Israel and obstacles to Palestinians
crossing them. But this is not because the Israelis discriminate against
Palestinians because they are Muslims or Arabs.
It is because too many
Palestinians have shown themselves to be bloodthirsty, murderers who have been
indoctrinated by their religious leaders and their government to believe in a
sick Islamic fantasy that it is their Muslim duty to kill Jews by blowing
themselves up; and that, if they do so, they will go to heaven along with 70
members of their family; and, that, if they are lucky enough to be male they
will be rewarded by 72 virgins on the other side.
On this side they will
be regarded as martyrs and saints and honored by their government. Sixty-percent
of Palestinians support suicide bombing and this sick, genocidal agenda – which
is shared by all members of the Palestinians’ democratically elected government
– to kill the Jews.
To ignore these facts and to invert them, as Jimmy
Carter does, is to mark yourself as a moral defective.
To take on as a
mission the spreading of lies that enable Islamic Nazis to carry out their final
solution is the epitome of the evil that America’s fifth column left and its
reprehensible ex-President represent in our time.

January 15, 2007 -- Has a former president of the
United States - a Nobel Peace Prize winner, no less - given his blessing to
wanton murder and terrorist assaults against Israel?
Sure looks that way.
How else to read that astonishing statement on
page 213 of Jimmy Carter's
new anti-Israel screed, "Palestine: Peace, Not Apartheid"?
To wit: "
It
is imperative that the general Arab community and all significant Palestinian
groups make it clear that they will end the
suicide bombings and other acts of terrorism when
international laws and the ultimate goals of the Roadmap for Peace are accepted
by Israel."
... The
sentence, simply put, makes
President Carter an apologist for terrorists ...
How did this man ever become president of the United
States?
He's gone from failed president to friend of left-wing
tyrants and global scold of anything that represents America's legitimate
interests.
Now, in his bid to demonize Israel (recall that
he secretly
gave PR and political advice to Yasser Arafat), Carter has turned mythmaker
- distorting history and misrepresenting facts, when he isn't making them up
altogether.
That's bad enough, of course. But when he flatly condones
mass murder, he goes beyond the pale.

Carter: No, as a
matter of fact, the concerns I exposed have gotten even worse now with the
United States supporting and encouraging Israel in its unjustified attack on
Lebanon.
SPIEGEL: But wasn't Israel the first to get
attacked?
Carter: I don't think that Israel has any legal or moral
justification for their massive bombing of the entire nation of Lebanon.
What happened is that Israel is holding almost 10,000 prisoners, so when the
militants in Lebanon or in Gaza take one or two soldiers, Israel looks upon this
as a justification for an attack on the civilian population of Lebanon and Gaza.
I do not think that's justified, no.
Carter: I think I represent the vast majority of Democrats in

Jimmy Carter: Too many Jews on Holocaust council
Former president also rejected Christian historian because name sounded 'too Jewish'
TEL AVIV – Former President Jimmy Carter once complained there were
"too many Jews" on the government's Holocaust Memorial Council, Monroe
Freedman, the council's former executive director, told WND in an
exclusive interview.
Freedman,
who served on the council during Carter's term as president, also
revealed a noted Holocaust scholar who was a Presbyterian Christian was
rejected from the council's board by Carter's office because the
scholar's name "sounded too Jewish."
Freedman, now a professor of law at Hofstra University,
was picked by the council's chairman, author Elie Weisel, to serve as
executive director in 1980. The council, created by the Carter White
House, went on to establish the Holocaust Memorial Museum in
Washington, D.C.
Freedman
says he was tasked with creating a board for the council and with
making recommendations to the White House on how best to memorialize
the Holocaust.
He told WND he sent a memo to Carter's office containing recommendations for council board members.
He said his memo was returned with a note on the upper right hand corner that stated, "Too many Jews."
The note, Freedman said, was written in Carter's handwriting and was initialed by Carter...
Freedman said at the time the board he constructed was about 80-perent Jewish, including many Holocaust survivors.
He
said at the behest of the White House he composed another board
consisting of more non-Jews. But he said he was "stunned" when Carter's
office objected to a non-Jew whose name sounded Jewish.
Freedman said he could not provide the historians name to WND because he did not have the man's permission.
"I
got a phone call from our liaison at the White House saying this
particular historian whose name sounded Jewish would not do. The
liaison said he would not even take the time to present Carter with the
possibility of including the historian on the board because he knew
Carter would think the name sounded too Jewish. I explained the
historian is Presbyterian, but the liaison said it wouldn't matter to
Carter."
Freedman said he was "outraged by this absurdity."
"If
I was memorializing Martin Luther King, I would expect a significant
number of board members to be African American. If I was memorializing
Native American figures I'd expect a lot of Native Americans to be on
the board.
"I
do not for a moment consider it inappropriate to build a Holocaust
council with a significant majority of the board being Jewish,"
Freedman stated.
